Logo Characteristics

CALENDAR

I had changed from the plain calendar to a kid calendar. I used pictures especially cartoons that will fit with kids. Also, I choose images that represent summer so the audience can figure out without looking at the title. Because I'm so in love with June, so i decided to make a calendar momth about June. I want my card to be colorful and not so much text because it's for my kid audience.

FLYERS

This is a screenshot of the flyer I made by using Microsoft Publisher! I had change the design from a plain flyer to a fabulous flyer. I used a lot of pictures,  I added a star banner so that attracted my audience (which is teenagers) ! I also changed the font style of the flyers so that will grab my audience's eyes right away when they look at it. In my flyer, I also add some discounts (Buy 2 sets and get 1 set free!), so my customers will buy more of my product.

What makes a bad logo?

1. Relies On Color For Its Effect

Without color, your great design may lose its identity.

This is a very common mistake. Some designers cannot wait to add color to a design, and some rely on it completely. Choosing color should be your last decision, so starting your work in black and white is best.
Every business owner will need to display their logo in only one color at one time or another, so the designer should test to see whether this would affect the logo’s identity. If you use color to help distinguish certain elements in the design, then the logo will look completely different in one tone.

8. Poor Choice Of Font

Font choice can make or break a logo.

When it comes to executing a logo, choosing the right font is the most important decision a designer can make. More often than not, a logo fails because of a poor font choice (our example shows the infamous Comic Sans).
Finding the perfect font for your design is all about matching the font to the style of the icon. But this can be tricky. If the match is too close, the icon and font will compete with each other for attention; if the complete opposite, then the viewer won’t know where to focus. The key is finding the right balance, somewhere in the middle.

9. Has Too Many Fonts

A logo works best with a maximum of two fonts.

Using too many fonts is like trying to show someone a whole photo album at once. Seeing too many at once causes confusion.
Using a maximum of two fonts of different weights is standard practice. Restricting the number of fonts to this number greatly improves the legibility of a logo design and improves brand recognition.

10. Copies Others

This is the biggest logo design mistake of all and, unfortunately, is becoming more and more common. If it looks the same as someone else’s, it has failed in that regard. Copying others does no one any favors, neither the client nor the designer.

What makes a good logo?

A good logo should be:
  • Appropriate
  • Simple (describable)
  • Memorable (unique)
  • Functional (scalable and effective without color)
  • Timeless

1. Appropriate

The Toys R Us logo would not be appropriate for a company that specializes in banking. The colors and typography aims for children who want to have fun. You can compare it to The Childrens Place logo which is targeted to sell quality childrens clothing. The goal of the logo is to sell clothes to the children’s parents.

2. Simple

Apple Logo

“It’s an apple with a bite taken out…yet it is in fact unique.”

The principle of a logo’s simplicity is the ability to describe it in words. The apple logo is a superb
logo example because of its simplicity.

3. Memorable

“A logo’s simplicity and memorability go hand in hand.”
If you can describe a logo then you can remember it. This is why simplicity is imperative. Many people think that a logo should directly relate to the business it represents. The fact is that relating the logo to the business could make it more memorable but it really is not necessary for success. The key behind a logo is the experience. Many companies don’t realize that a logo is only as good as your product. It’s your job to design a logo that a customer will remember when they walk out of the door.

4. Functional

If a logo is not functional then it will severly hadicap a brand. I always leave color until the very end of the design process. A logo that does not work well in black and white will not be useful in color.
Making sure a logo is a scalable is very important and cannot be stressed enough. A good logo should look good down to an inch or even smaller.

5. Timeless
Coca-Cola Logo
A timeless logo design may be the hardest to hard achieve out of all of the guidelines. Companies will often make adjustments or even revamp a logo dsign over time. There main competitor Pepsi has constantly revitalized their logo to fit the current time period while the Coca-Cola logo has went almost untouched.

Rules to making a good logo

These are the rules to make a good logo:

1. K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple Stupid)

The simple the logo is, the more recognizable it will be. For example, the Noke swoosh is an extremely simple logo and is also one of the most recognizable in the world.

2. The Goal is Recognization

The whole point of creating a logo is to build brand recognization. A few examples of this are the logos for Coca - Cola, Pepsi, McDonald's, and Nike. The key to making a recognizable logo is to combine all of the elements article:
  • Size
  • Style
  • Color
  • Originality
3. Design Style Should Suitable

You can use various design styes when creating a logo, and to pick the right one, you should haves some background information about your brand. research your audience before you begin your work. This will help you determine the best style from the start.

4. Go Easy on Effects

Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other graphic design programs are extremely powerful tools and have manyeffects that you can apply to your logo

5. A logo must be appropriate

How you position the logo should be appropriate for its intended purpose. For example, if you are designing a logo for children's toys store, it would be appropriate to use a childish font and color scheme.

These are the steps that you need to followed to make your presentation looks excellent:
  1. All the slides must looks CONSISTENCY. By using slide master you can make your presentation looks consistency.
  2. Slides should contain 1-2 images. By that way, you will make your audience more understand about your presentation.
  3. Your presentation should contained 2-3 bullet points.
  4. Remember to ask yourself while you are doing the presentation: "Is this presentation suitable for my audience?".
  5. Your presentation should have purpose. It is very important, if not you will don't know what you are talking about.
  6. Use creative layouts, so the audience won't get bored with your presentation

Using Paint.net

Last class, Mr.Michael had teach us how to editing pictures in Paint.net by using magic wand. The Magic Wand tool allows you to select areas of color similar to the way the other selection tools allow you to select a given shape. Unlike the other selection tools, however, the Magic Wand tool takes into consideration factors such as the actual content of the image and the current. You may think of the Magic Wand as working similarly to the Paint Bucket, except that instead of filling the area with color it will select that area. These are the steps that you might want to editing pictures in Paint.net by using magic wand:

Step 1: Paste the image that you want to be edit. Then, click on the button "add new layer", and name that folder which ever name you wanna named it for example (layer 2).

Step 2: Click on the "Adjusments" tool and change it to what effect you want your picture           looks like. For example, you can change it to:

  • Black and White(Like the one that I did it below). By using this effect it will make the "Statue of Liberty" more stand out.

Medium Cesium_Kitty
This is my whole presentation, if you are interested, you can take a look at it!

The video below is the original video which I downloaded from YouTube:

The video below is the video after I edited it:

I made lots of changes such as adding more pictures, transitions for the video. If you watched the original video, it is very kind of boring, and also it's not suitable for my audience which is (Grade 4 and Grade 5).

Project 1: The Multimedia Science Project

I just finished a lesson about making a multimedia presentation. I have learned lots of new things such as:

  • Audience, which is the group of people for whom you are developing your work
  • Purpose, which is the reason we make the presentation.

For this presentation, my audience are middle school students (Grade 4 to Grade 5) and my purpose is to teach students about my element (Cesium). I also learned that in a multimedia presentation you should include things such as:

  • Images,
  • Videos
  • Sounds

to make the presentation looks interesting. In addition, I learned that my presentation should be consistent so that every slides looks the same through the whole presentation. To make my presentation consistent, I used slide master to change the whole design of the presentation. These screen shots below are the things I did in my first 4 slides with my pictures and sounds in there:
